let it go—the
smashed word broken
open vow or
the oath cracked length
wise—let it go it
was sworn to
go

let them go—the
truthful liars and
the false fair friends
and the boths and
neithers—you must let them go they
were born
to go

let all go—the
big small middling
tall bigger really
the biggest and all
things—let all go
dear

so comes love

-e. e. cummings

(I own my darkness. When it seduces me, I unlock the gate and open the cage and I let it loose at night. I let it hover above me as I sleep, like a cloud, pregnant and grey, let it seep insidiously through swirling dreams, let it chase after the golden birds, (scatter them, so they forget how to sing), let it play all the keys on the grand piano, bang, bang, da da dumm clang. Let it go high, go wild, scream. And finally, when light breaks, as I wake, I breathe it in, breathe all of it back in, in, in, swallow it down with a single gulp and force it to drown. Then I steal the radiant glow of the blushing sun and dab it on my cheeks, my eyelids. I steal it's glorious joy, drench myself in it's burning heat. And like a child who holds on to the thin breaking string of a red helium balloon, I cling on to the new day and it's new shimmery charm. I sink my nails, my teeth into it's sweet promises, and go on, strive on, live on.)
