Yay! Finally got to watch Great Expectations after so long. I've been searching for this movie for quite some time now, and watching it- no in fact just holding the DVD in my hands- gave me a deep sense of satisfaction, as if life, just by watching Great Expectations, could suddenly become so much better. Haha. The crankiness and sheer pleasure of finally getting what you want- no matter how insignificant. Happy happy. ^^

I absolutely love the famous kiss at the fountain. It's beautifully innocent and yet simultaneously dark and seductive. Two little cherubic figures, the polar opposites of each other, leaning against the side of the fountain, tipping toes, and meeting with a kiss.

And the part where Pip took Miss Havisham's hand into his', and slowly and gently brought it to his chest. He asked her in the softest of trembling whispers, "Do you know what this is?"

She nodded.

"It's my heart."

She nodded.

"Can you feel it?"

She nodded.

"It's broken."

The whole dialogue was so achingly tender and so gut-wrenchingly painful.

Lust, obsessions, motivations in life, goals and aspirations, love, revenge, desperations, pain, seduction, holding on, moving on... ... How much of it is for yourself? How much of it is for others?

I think at the end of the day, you play the most mind games with yourself. From whether you should or should not, to whether you should reveal certain things or should not, to how you want others to view you, to how much you should trust, etc. And even the mind games you set up with others, is a mind game so complicated you set up within yourself, like a maze within a maze and it never ends.

Sometimes the truth is dangled before you so blatantly, but you readily succumb to the softer and sweeter sensations of illusions.

I suppose it can't be helped sometimes.

We all want to live a lie sometimes.

Is it wrong?

Miss Havisham = one of the most memorable Dickens character.

'The Christmas Carol' is the only Dickens novel which I've read before; finished 'Oliver Twist' halfway through, will borrow 'Great Expectations' soon, especially after reading this entry :P
