We are like roses that have never bothered to
bloom when we should have bloomed and
it is as if
the sun has become disgusted with
waiting.

-'Finish' by Charles Bukowski.

To be sleepless, as the night passes. Nothing can be worse than too much, too much silence. The world is dead with sleep. All that is left, is the inadequacy of your own blighted presence. A spot of black in a world of white. You must be careful. You must be very, very careful, of the way you move, the way you think, the way you feel, the way you speak- you know how it brings you to places you can never return from, places of tempting, tragic beauty, too dark, too deep and too heavy; how they try to drown you, how you long to drown, gently, without making a single sound. Not now. Please. Hold still. Be strong. Not now. Not now. Not now.

Charles Bukowski? Don't like his poems in general.

What a pity! You should read his stuff again. I would recommend poems like, 'Alone With Everybody' or 'Cause And Effect' or 'Be Kind'. That's all I can remember for now but there's definitely more... This is one cocky bastard. A talented and very, very real kinda guy who doesn't even try too hard to please. Anyway, you shouldn't be too quick to like or dislike a poem even if it is only human nature to do so. Love him or hate him, Bukowski writes to express himself and his personality is remarkably indelible in all of his works.

Actually, I've read quite a lot of his poems before (I always remind myself not to judge any author before I've read enough of his writings to come to a conclusion), and while I agree that "his personality is remarkably indelible in all of his works", I am still unable to bring myself to appreciate his works. Well, you can't please everyone (even when you don't try too hard to please at all). And I also agree that it is never advisable to be too quick to judge anything, but I myself am aware of this trap and so I always avoid falling into it, and my opinions towards any poem (or any form of writing/art in general) are always a combination of instinctive and contemplative thoughts (at least I try)... Have you seen his paintings before? Not quite impressive I'd say.

Haha. Freud painted too! Not impressive too. :P Oh wells, to each his own!

Oh, did I tell you that Dali's paintings are actually influenced by Freud's psychoanalysis theory and interpretation of dreams? Dali began to take his dreams seriously and try to seek the underlying meanings of all his dreams (no matter how ridiculous and weird they appear to be) and translated his dreams into paintings, capturing their contents in colors. I guess that explains the absurd elements in all his works which fascinates me very much (Dali is one of my favorites actually).

Who are your favorite artists by the way? Oh and did you visit the art exhibition at the Opera Gallery at Takashimaya? I was so utterly glad that I didn't miss it.

Ay I wanted to go check it out too but was too busy. Darnit. :( I like Dali too, but its more because of his flamboyant character than his art works. Tehehe. Mmmhhhmm... I adore Rene Magritte better than Dali although they're both part of Surrealism, oh and very cute quirky gay David Hockney (!), Umberto Boccioni's brain more than his end products... A lot really. I can't say there is any one artist I truly like although I do have this perpetual fascination with Van Gogh. Heh.
