Sunday's Name Of The Day was, "Shit Pile. Desirable Shit Pile."
The most important thing I ever learned from my chocolate buddy was how to have a sense of humour. Laugh. Laugh at everything and everybody. Laugh at yourself. Get whatever fun you can out of whatever crap you're in. She has a joke for every occasion, although some are very dark and twisted. Life might suck, her future boyfriend might die, she might be left on the shelf, her mother's menopausal nags might make her explode, but her head is held straight up. She's so crazy and she laughs like a hyena, but there is also this innate sense of survival and of sensibility in her. I think she's amazing.
Sometimes you watch people and you wonder, "How? How do they do it?" Such beauty, such grace and such strength of character shown all around you in the people that you know. You don't have to go to the other side of the world, in fact you don't have to go very far at all, to find an ordinary miracle, or a simple person with a simple story to tell that will gently lift the corners of your lips up into a secret hopeful smile.
Just by watching them, you realize that big bombastic words don't matter, that grades are not life and death, that school smart don't mean life smart or people smart. The ability to communicate, to relate, to be sincere, to be kind, to do the right thing, to forgive because we all need to be forgiven... Those are the things that should matter and gawd sometimes they are hard to hang on to.
Like Syl once said, more than being envious or wanting to mock them, you feel inspired and you think, "If they can do it, I can do it too."
So bite the bullet and honey, chin up. No sad faces.
Because life is too short to be anything less than sweet.
